Delivery and return fraud—also known as “friendly fraud”—is increasing in eCommerce even as many merchants bring their payment fraud losses under control. It involves legitimate customers using valid payment cards and is akin to electronic shoplifting. This type of fraud may seem small scale, but collectively, the losses can add up quickly for a business. According to the 2014 National Retail Federation Return Fraud Survey, the industry will lose an estimated $10.9 billion this year, which means the bottom line of many retailers is being impacted.
